"had the lamb shanks with rice and peas. Delish. Big bold peppery taste. lot's of heat but not too much. perfectly seasoned. Someone in the kitchen knows how to cook and if they can deliver the same level of quality consistently then I will be a regular. Worth the trip to New West since it's the only Trinidadian resto in the Lower Mainland: though not all their dishes are Trinidadian- heavy Jamaican taste here too."

We live in the West End of Vancouver where there are a lot of restaurants, but none we are aware of offering Caribbean (Trinidadian) fare. We discovered D Roti Shak in New Westminster by accident. We were going to the Caribbean Market on a mission to buy a specific brand of curry powder (Chief Madras) and discovered D Roti Shak two doors down. It was near lunch so we decided to try the food. Best decision we made that day. We shared the Doubles- excellent. I had the paratha style roti and my wife tried the dahlpurie type with the chick peas in the wrap. Both were substantial servings and were excellent. The sorrel was also very good but a bit sweet for my taste. We were very pleased with the excellent delicious food at a reasonable cost. The lady serving was friendly and patient in explaining the menu choices. It is a bit of a ride for us, but we'll make the trip to D Roti Shak often in the future.

I met a friend here for lunch. First time for both of us. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her goat curry. I went for appies instead and ordered two doubles (a double double,?) patties of soft "bread-like rounds" (as the menu says, really the best way to describe them,) filled with a chickpea stew. The balance of tamarind and habañero in the chick pea sauce was beautiful in the mouth and very satisfying, the habañero hot but as much in evidence by its floral taste. Ginger beer was a great accompaniment to both meals. You order at the counter and then the warm and friendly proprietor brings your food and clears up afterward. One quick lunch visit is not enough! I suspect this might actually be five-dot food as well as service and value, but I want to try more of the dishes and get brave about some of those Caribbean fruit drinks before I say five. But do go!

Authentic roti, very flavourful, make yuh want to lick d plate nah boy. This is the real ting nah man. Really, if you don't know Trini roti, it's fantastic. Home cooked curry with potatoes bursting with flavour wrapped in a nice soft roti wrap. There's so much bad big boxed food restaurants with no flavour and higher prices, do yourself a flavour (favour) and try it, yuh belly with thank you boss! Support local businesses too. Feel D vibe! Try D goat.

This is a Caribbean restaurant and probably the best one in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland (Rehanah's in Port Moody is really good too). The roti are amazing. So flavourful. Chicken is my favorite. The doubles are soooo good. Very spicy though so if you don't like spice then go home! Just joking, just ask for less heat.If you go on the weekend and are lucky enough to find some you need to get the Sweet Bread for dessert. Homemade and so delicious!
