Not many places to choose from in this picturesque village wanted a normal meal as we were having a gastronomic meal in the abbey the following evening. Mixed feelings about this restaurant I had a delicious starter egg in a Parmesan soup but not much choice of mains and my choice wasn’t available so ended up with grilled prawns salad and a few sautéed potatoes which didn’t look very appetising. My husband had the offal sausage which was interesting. The restaurant was lacking atmosphere and people were leaving coats on because they insisted on having the door open. Wished we had chosen another venue
A great addition to the village Fontevraud l'Abbaye. Three high quality courses for 18EUR. An excellent Soupe d'Homard) lobster bisque a favourite of mine, and this was as good as I've had; a very enjoyable local sausage speciality; and some interesting cheeses including a lovely creamy blue. If I'd had the other choices (goats cheese crème brûlée, steak with garlic mustard and celeri risotto, and crème chocolat), I expect I would have been just as happy;the other diners seemed very content. Good house wine and pleasant attentive service. I'll be back, and will encourage others to go.
We wandered into Mimie's after visiting the abbey for a snack. It was already past typical lunch time in the off season, but the staff was very kind and accommodating, serving us a delicious small lunch that I was very happy with! If you don't at least speak some French, you might have a little trouble communicating, though. Luckily, they were very accommodating with our broken command of the language and we left with a great overall impression.
Having eaten in all but one of the restaurants in this lovely village, Chez Mimie stands out as the best. The food and especially the portion sizes are excellent and exceptional value for money, as is the house wine the nicest local Samur white we've tried. The service was second to none and was matched by the nice ambience from this little gem.
