Cafe Brasserie Du Chateau

While walking the Chemin St Jaques we entered Estaing starving and looking for a good meal. We found the Brasserie immediately and we glad to see that there were a number of empty tables. Much to our chagrin we stood at the entrance waiting while a number of locals pushed their way past us and entered. Finally we were able to corner a waiter and asked for a table. We were shocked when we were told that there was no room. When we pointed at the empty tables we were again told no room . Our assumption is that they don 't want any pilgrims in their restaurant. We walked 50 meters down the street where we were welcomed with great enthusiasm. If your in Estaing go to Lilou ' s. You won 't regret it. And as for The Brasserie du Chateau keep away. They don 't deserve our (The Pilgrim 's) business.

We have been in France eight days now, and as you know, most of the meals in France are always great. For me this was the best meal of our trip. The potatoes are the best ever, sautéed in duck fat, so tasty with Rosemary and garlic also. The trout was cooked to perfection. The salad was crisp, fresh and delicious. There was also a piece of the local cheese included, which was delicious. I did not sample the desserts, but my friends who did loved them. The location is great too, just near the castle, and the prices were very fair. I would definitely return to this lovely restaurant!

We ate here twice during our stay in Estaing. Although the menu is limited the choice of meats was good. All cooked to perfection and where applicable you could choose how you wanted your meat done. Loved the desserts especially the home made meringue with sorbet and cream. Great atmosphere and a warm welcome from the hosts.

Great food and service. Welcomed our dogs on the terrace with a bowl of water: a good sign of people who care! The trout and the veal were both excellent and the young waiter very helpful and attentive. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Excellent service, lovely food, friendly and helpful staff. Good quality at good prices with local produce, the fish was delicious.
