We were just visiting Santa Cruz and are so glad we stopped by. We wished we could try everything on the menu but stuck to: melted cheese appetizer, 8/10 i wished it had some sort of a spicy oil with it. pappardelle and gnocchi 10/10 i cannot have asked for more. So fresh and delicious, i asked for a side of bread to keep going on the filet sauce of the gnocchi because i just couldn't leave it. marscapone cake with passion fruit glaze and apple pie 10/10. Loved the atmosphere and the staff as well!
My partner and I have been to Avanti many times. We started with the creamed broccoli soup (dairy-free) and was delicious. The duck dinner I had was the best meal I have had there. Not only was the duck delicious, but the cooked vegetables (broccoli, zucchini, and salad) were excellent. And on the side were very good potato latkes, possibly as an homage that this week is Chanukah. Though my partner's chicken fusilli wasn't as good as her usual lasagna that she orders, it was still pretty good.
We used to love this place and had many memorable meals over the years but only eating takeout these days. I don't think food should be mediocre just because you're picking it up to eat at home. My meal of pasta with vegetables was below average. The broccoli wasn't very fresh and the whole greasy mess seemed thrown together without much thought. We also ordered the cauliflower and found the flavor profile just kind of weird. What's changed? Way to blow sixty bucks. Won't be back.
Great, clean Italian food. Feel well, attentive service and a cozy feeling. We were not sure where to eat, drove past this place and checked the reviews here on yelp. We're glad we chose it! Excellent lasagna, delicious calender salad and a cool mix of flavors in the brussel sprouts. We'd like to do it back here.
