We happened to accidently drop by for lunch on a car trip through the area. Expecting a nothing out of the ordinary mountain/countryside restaurant, it turned out to be a wonderful surprise and the best meal on our two week vacation in the Alps. Instead...of a selection of regional specialities, the restaurant offered something more in the style of “unpretentious fine dining” based on local produce. The services was very friendly and enthusiastic, making the meal a relaxing and pleasant experience. The choices on the menu were rather limited. There was only a three course set menu available, which could be expanded to four or six courses. We opted for the basic version. All the dishes were beautifully presented as well as being tasty. Obviously made with great care and love for the ingredients. Each dish was perfectly sized, making the meal as a whole substantial enough to feel satisfied, without the feeling of being stuffed. For the hungry ones an upgrade to four or six courses might by advisable. There are probably cheaper meals to be enjoyed in the village, but taking the quality of the food and service into account the price level must be best described as a bargain. To sum it all up, I would say that this restaurant is well worth not only a stop your way through Hauteluce, but a destination on its own.

Whilst staying in Hauteluce on holiday managed to book a table for 8 people here on a Saturday night (after missing out the evening before to secure a table in either village restaurant), Worth planning ahead with reservations as it appears the locals like to dine out at weekends too. The owner could not have been more helpful, translating the menu for us non French speakers and explaining where the local ingredients came from. The food was fabulous and the little touches for adults and children alike made this a wonderful evening. Wish we had discovered it sooner in our holiday as would have loved to sample more of the menu, would highly recommend the chicken and port fillet, both cooked with local cheese.

Please note that Tripadvisor restaurant searches for Hautluce will show Les Saisies which is about 3-4 Km away. So a Hautluce search lists Auberge du Mont Blanc as 14th. This is incorrect. It should be up at #1 or #2. We had a lovely welcome and wonderful traditional food. The chicken I had was the best I had ever tasted. It was so rich. We had Kirs, Mondeuse Arbin, Charcuterie, Poulet Fermier in Beaufort sauce and Macaroni with Tomme and ham. Very rich, very satisfying and very well cooked. Lovely sauted potatoes as well. I was uncertain initially as the place seemed very quiet, but I am so glad we went in. We could not have been made more welcome. You must go there when in Hautluce.

This was our second visit to this lovely restaurant. Our first visit was a brief stopover at the bar and we decided to come back. The service was friendly and the dishes were very good. We particularly enjoyed the wine selection of local wines. We will definitely be back.
