I wanted to try this place based on the reviews. However, I was sadly disappointed. I had the menu #3 which I chose the foie gras for my app, fish for my main and a dessert trio. I had high hopes for the foie gras because I love it. This was not good. It's tasted like it was on its last leg. The fish was bland and the asparagus was chopped up and overlooked. The dessert was decent at best. I should've known something was wrong as I walked in and I was the only one there and only two more tables were full while I was there. Not a good representation of good french Alsatian cuisine at all.
Just off the main square we arrived well late for lunch around 2.00pm , in fact everyone else had long ago left , never the less we were welcomed and while the main course of the Menu du jour “ beef Strogonoff” sounded delicious it was long gone but our fault for being late. The owner did offer a platter of the home made rabbit terrine as a starter though and it was excellent, no, really excellent.Being a very hot day we all had salads, 2 regional and I Nicoise all more than we could eat. Along with beers and mineral water the bill came to 92 euros for four of us….quite reasonable.
We had the 3 course menu du jour at €11.90. In itself, this was a success as so many restaurants in the town did not offer a formule but just a plat du jour, possibly with a dessert or coffee.The soup starter was very good, followed by a decent quality steak, cooked to order. There was a choice of 3 desserts. Service was attentive, polite and well paced. We would definitely go back!
The service was efficient and friendly. The food, mostly Alsatian fares, was cooked in the purest tradition and lots of love. This was a very enjoyable meal at a very reasonable price. Go there if you want to get away from tourist traps and fake wannabe Alsatian restaurants.
