Archibald's has been around forever....and I hope will remain so, just because the venue is charming and the staff is so nice. My best advice to anyone planning to go there (and I'm sorry to say this, because it didn't used to be this way:) go for the atmosphere of the place, but NOT for the food. What we love: Archibald's has great atmosphere - the place is laid out perfectly if you want to go for drinks with a group of friends or just have a quiet booth to chat. The bar area is also well designed and a welcoming space. What let us down: the food. I don't know if a change in management or cooking staff has occurred, as we used to love this place for traditional pub grub. We went on a weeknight for dinner, fyi.For me, the greatest disappointment was the nachos. For $16, I just expected something more than a plate that I could have assembled myself for waaay cheaper (and with more care) if I'd walked to the variety store in the plaza and bought the stuff myself. The chips were soggy/rubbery and kind of tasted like they'd been reheated more than once; a tiny container of ice-cold salsa that had clearly just been poured from a jar in the fridge; and these mounds of wilted lettuce on top, I guess to conceal how little cheese was involved in the operation? Just such a bummer because they used to have great nachos and I was excited about that! All this griping said, though I will likely not order food there again (never say never, though,) I love the place. The staff is friendly, the room is clean and inviting, and it's a good space to hang with friends. But don't order the nachos!
