This place really hit the spot! After spending 2 days on the ferry with terrible quality food it was so nice to have such a nice quality meal and great service. Being a chef myself I usually leave place disappointed with food and service. I normally don't have time to waste leaving a review but felt I should find the time to praise the team. We had mussels to start, which were some of the juiciest plump mussels I have ever seen and a braised beef taco with pickled red onions to start, both delicious!! I had rare rump of beef roast which was also excellent. I find that most places who carry on serving roast in the later part of the evening ends up being dry, this was definitely not. My wife had the Abar bistro beef burger, again excellent. To full for desserts of we went on our journey home. Well Done Everyone, you can be very proud of yourselves!

The A Bar is situated on the edge of Gun Wharf and is worth stepping outside of the Wharf to experience an independent bar and restaurant. The food and service in the restaurant was very good. They offer a good mixed menu, offering fish, steaks, burgers and homemade pizza’s, cooked in a stone oven. They have an excellent wine list, which caterers for all wallets. I was also informed that they have a wine shop upstairs. Following dinner, we moved into the bar, which was very busy and due to the hot weather, the outside area was also packed. Although busy, Oscar, one of the bar team, still took the time to acknowledge us and to talk us through the drinks they have on offer. He was a credit to th, especially as it was so busy. When we are back on the area, we will definitely re-visit. [hidden link]

We spent a nice few hours at the Abar last night. I haven’t been for a few years as I thought the food was over-priced, but as most of party lives in Old Portsmouth, we decided to visit the Abar for dinner. The house red and white wine were very palatable and all our meals were pleasing. I had the ham hock, ducks egg and chips, and it was delicious and fairly-priced. The waiting staff were friendly enough, but why, oh why do they insist on calling everyone ‘guys’? It’s so annoying particularly as we were a party of five women. It’s so casual, and whilst I don’t expect formal addressing in a pub/bistro, ‘guys’ is just awful. Please think again how you address your diners.

Great atmosphere, great food but for the first time in years of visiting the ABar the service was genuinely awful. Had to repeat the order multiple times, didn’t ask if we wanted to order wine, came back to clear the table of wine glasses, and still didn’t ask if we wanted to order wine. Walked away half way through ordering drinks twice, before getting the full order, only to turn up with the wrong drinks. I waited for my wine to accompany my starters and the rest of the table had finished before it arrived. Having visited for a shared 50th/92nd Birthday it was a big disappointment.
