The recent update to the interior of the George is largely very good. The only point I would make which still hasn't been resolved is the number of doors! It means that wherever you sit you are likely to encounter doors being opened and closed throughout your meal. We had the chef walk past our table carrying some crates then open the door to outside creating a nasty draught whilst we were in the middle of eating! It makes for a chilly dining area. But the food was very good (though not quite hot enough) if a little pricey. The white wine is never sufficiently chilled. Service is inconsistent. I have frequented this establishment for many years and sometimes the service is good, sometimes not. It is the luck of the draw and depends which staff are on duty. The biggest issue remains however. If you happen to sit facing the kitchen then you will no doubt be looking at a fluorescent light, kitchen worktops and tiling as the kitchen door is always propped open hardly in keeping with the lovely historical surroundings!
large local authentically maintained historical pub visited for a 3-course menu, appetizers were tasty, netzen were ok, I asked for my steak cooked rarely but came more well done than rare! When I asked about our meals, I mentioned about the steak and the waitress that she would mention it in the kitchen....Nothing was mentioned, not even an apology. desserts meet the point, sweet great local ales on tap. we would probably try somewhere else next time.
We had a wonderful meal in a very nice pub to relax. All cooking specialties of the day were vegan and I had an amazing vegan Dansak, while my partner had not spoken the vegan roasts very enough about the food and reasonably also price. It was also spacious enough for the stroller!
We had a fantastic Sunday roast, it was nice with a filo pastry butternut squash, lentil filling. With All the Veg and vegan engraving. Amazing location in a historic building, beautiful views and friendly staff.
