This is a good old fashion type of pub in a lovely location by the Hanham lock and weir on the river Avon. We arrived on a Narrowboat and found decent moorings close to the pub. Having had a warm welcome and a look at the menu we decided to eat here as opposed to the pricier option next door, we were pleased we did. The staff and locals were friendly and helpful which all added to a pleasant evening in a relaxed atmposphere. The food was really nice for 'pub grub ' and the portions were generous and offered good value. The ribs were huge !! After eating we strolled a little way past the quaint cottages and enjoyed pleasant views of the river and weir before returning to the boat. Great stop and we will certainly call in again if in the area.

If you are looking for an unspoiled riverside pub with a friendly atmosphere then search this one out on the next sunny weekend. I arrived last weekend to an amazing welcome, to be fair it was not my first visit but I only visit a few times a year. There is a good choice of beer and cider, including Thatchers Gold as a slushy. The pub food is big in quality and big in size, be warned because the staff may jokingly described the full rack of ribs as being like something out of the Flintsones but that is pretty accurate; even excessive eaters will not be disappointed (mere mortals and sensible eaters might want to share or order a half rack).

Popped in for some lunch with the girlfriend today and had a really good pub meal. Nice menu that had enough choices without being over the top. We had a burger and the home made faggots and were both really pleased. Service was friendly and relatively quick and the meals were good value for money. Would thoroughly recommend and will be going back once it warms up as they have a really nice outdoors section by the river. Also dog friendly which suits us

We chose to have a family lunch at the Old Lock and Weir when family visited from Australia. We ate outside because it was not possible for one man in the group to get his long legs under the table without lifting the table. Not suitable for 6'4 . The ham egg and chips was average. Scamp portion was tiny. Prawn main was 6 prawns. Not good value for money. We are not regular visitors but used to be when we lived in Bristol. Lovely riverside setting.
