I was a big fan of the old Quilliam Brothers and was thrilled to see it was reopening as Clarement Teahouse. First visit today was not a good one unfortunately thanks to a very poor management decision. This has always been a busy teahouse with a wait to be seated expected. For that wait you were guaranteed a lovely cup of tea and an intimate conversation space with a friend/partner/relative. However, along with a few other bemused and clearly uncomfortable pairs/threes, today we were seated at a small table with a three we did not know. The table in question could have fit four snugly. For a couple and a three it involved us awkwardly trying to maintain our own conversations with our knees repeatedly knocking. Trying to maximise sales by sitting unknown groups very close together at what should be an intimate tea house is NOT going to keep this place popular for long. Either get more two person tables or accept not everyone can be seated at once. Very out of touch management decision suggesting an ignorance of why people come to a teahouse.

Came solo for brunch on a Sunday. Lovely spacious cafe, busy on a Sunday morning. Great selection of bagels, I had the maple bacon with cream cheese. Very good quality. I was advised that I could just stay for an hour which was fine as I was alone (and was told when the hour was up) but not much use if you’re with friends/having a catch up. Service was a bit abrupt. Potential to be an excellent rating but I see the person who has reviewed had a similar experience so think it’s something they need to reconsider.

Staff exteriors and an cafe interior that makes you want to stay for a while. I wasn’t on this occasion but was still treated well and was served a creamy dreamy latte to take away. Whether you’re here for a while or take out with a smile Enjoy

lovely quiet cafe for good drink, weather your relaxing with a friend, studying or reading having time to yourself. this is easily the best tea house in Newcastle with so many various flavors of tea. I was in tea heaven.
