I’ll start by saying the food was excellent. orders and all of the seafood dishes were spot on. Price point was very good, and the location is clean. The only drawback was they were backed up out the door and new and seasoned staff...were struggling. stars for the effort though. Ticket times were minutes at least with another waiting to order and another waiting for seating. Server was on her shift and we could tell she was putting the effort in, but nerves were getting frayed. A couple orders got mixed up as well. Would I come back? Definitely. Would I recommend? We had a party of thirteen including small children. They accommodated us with no problems. Drinks came quickly and food was served fast. Everybody had something different and the all loved it. The Caesar salad was a hit. One dish (my steak) was apparently not...right and the waitress caught it before it left the kitchen. She brought out a complimentary beer and bowl roasted cauliflower soup (amazing creamy chowder consistency, one of the best soups I’ve ever had). She promised that it would be worth the wait. And she was right. While I requested a medium rare New York steak this one was served rare, however it was perfectly seasoned and amazingly flavorful.
We went here last winter and my girlfriend accidentally left behind a really nice toque. She phoned and they found it (I think they even put her name on it) and were leaving it in their lost and found box. She drove from Nelson to...get it back and it was gone. This was a gift from a friend. We're a bit suspicious about this. The fish and chips were pretty decent and there was a lot of food (good portions). The service was alright. We liked the atmosphere as well... lots of history. Just very disappointed on how this turned out.
Although only in the area every years or so, its always a regular stop for dinner! They have the best Fish and Chips I have had outside of London, and service is always friendly and efficient. They are not open every day so pay...attention to current schedule. The Fish and Chips come with either Cod or Halibut. I ordered a combination as both are delightful. We were touring the town of Kaslo and asked a local where they like to eat out. They recommended JB's. They especially liked the schnitzel. I ordered the schnitzel while my spouse ordered the rack of pork ribs. Both were very good. The portions were...so generous that we didn't have room to try dessert.
Excellent and friendly service (Marie, you were wonderful huge portions of very good food, incredibly inexpensive! Doesn't look too compelling from the road, but it's warm wood and fishing themed interior is perfect!
While staying at Ainsworth Hotsprings, we had dinner here. Down-to-earth type of place with the best halibut fish and chips I ever had. So good that we went back there for a second night
