After over 30 years, Jürgen Dannewald retired at the end of April 2014. Of course, a place is not left in such a good location with many current and regular guests. The type of house should therefore be preserved. A new Managing Director has reopened the Bierei after a renovation phase. When shopping in the city centre, I visited the beer island irregularly, but again and again. Above all, I always drank Sünner Kölsch. This relative herb is brewed in lime. The company has a long tradition in Cologne. I don't like this beer so bad. It reminds of Pils – perhaps only Gaffel Kölsch is similar. The other Kölsch brands have much milder notes like Kölsch, Reissdorf Kölsch or also Malzmühlen Kölsch and Päffgen Kölsch. The term "cologne" is protected by law (except the beer from Düsseldorf, which can be brewed everywhere. For example, it must not be natural. The exact definition of the taste is a bright, bare (filtered and mountainous full beer with an average strain wort of 11.3 and an alcohol content of on average 4.8 . The Wicküler brewery in Wuppertal had to learn how strict this is. She called a beer Küppers Kölsch and was quickly mashed. Then she cut the problem and broke the beer in Cologne. All right. The name Küppers belongs to the Oetker Group portfolio today. In the sub-area “Haus Kölscher Brautradition u.a., the brands take place: Gilden Kölsch, Küppers Kölsch, Kurfürsten Kölsch, Sester Kölsch, Peters Kölsch, Sion Kölsch and Dom Kölsch. But there are also exceptions to the rules when a long brewing tradition existed before 1960: So Zunft Kölsch in Wiehl can call himself so, Bischoff Kölsch in Brühl (Giesler was also allowed to, Steck Kölsch in Frechen, Garde Kölsch in Dormagen (no longer available, Kurfürsten Kölsch in Bonn) Ambience In the entrance area and at the counter, the house is still like a brewhouse and comfortably furnished – in the larger space behind it it is already sober. The old exhibits were removed and replaced by large “pure” pictures. There are many places. And the occupancy is enormous. During my visit the house was sturdy: individuals, families and small groups. Almost everyone ate bowls. Cleanliness It was well maintained for operation with a very fast changing customer. Sanitation There was also a pretty order. The men's department in some brewhouses looks terrible because customers pay little attention to cleanliness. The best seems to be solved in the malt mill: here there are toilet staff. Service Even with great urge the waiters were friendly. There was no room for big talk. Here I eat the well-known little things: Halver Hahn, Mettbrötchen or also an egg feed such as Strammer Max or pancake. I won't be disappointed. Eat that day I ate a bacon pancake and he was okay. I don't expect a loving kitchen, but a base for the carton. The proportion of the bacon was right. The eggcake was really spiced. The size was reasonable and fulfilled me. Drinks Who wants wine in a wooden brewhouse or a glass of milk has misunderstood everything. Here's beer, Kölsch. And that tastes good. The price of € 1.80 for a 0.2l glass is already a house number in this house (but the competitors usually take € 1.70). Conclusion 3 – when it comes – I will always return here because it is a beautiful house (in the area on the counter and in the front on the street and drink a crumb and eat a little bit of bite – but no more.
