What a little gem up a narrow back street in the old town of Ciutadella! It was recommended to us by the owner of Portal des Pins. Although it appears unimposing compared to some of the flashier restaurants in the town, don’t be fooled. This is a quality place. My wife and I arrived without a reservation at about 1930. By 2030 all the tables were occupied and people were queuing up. You can sit inside or outside but on a balmy June evening everyone wanted to be outside . It’s not the cheapest place you can find but not over the top either. It was our first night and we wanted to treat ourselves. For two of us we paid 90 euros for a bottle of wine, bottle of water, a large sharing starter, two main courses and a coffee. Most of the starters are around 15 euros but are for two sharing. There’s a great choice to satisfy all tastes. We had a delicious grated potato with flaked cod and garlic. For the mains, which were equally delicious, my wife had honey roasted ham on the bone with all the usual veg and I had monkfish and prawns with gorgeous thinly sliced potatoes and a salsa-type sauce. And to top it all the service was prompt, friendly and professional. We said we’d go back – and we did! This time, after olives and rustic bread and garlic prawns to share we had cod au gratin and a John Dory fish, followed by a divine Viennetta dessert. Most of the mains are around 25 euros but pizzas were closer to 10 and pastas 15 and there was a kids menu. Heartily recommended!!
